Barrettes, also known as slide clips or clasps, have been around since the 20th century when Marnie Bjornson invented the elongated hair clip. These clips are made from a variety of materials such as plastic, metal, or even fabrics. Barrettes come in many different clip styles but in today’s post we’re gonna talk about three styles in particular which are the most popular styles this season: the Snap Clip, the Alligator Clip, and the French Barrette. Not only are these clips very trendy and super cute, but they can match just about any outfit. You can throw them on with messy loose curls and walk out the door! 

-The Snap Clip-

Everyone loves a handy snap clip! Not going to lie but snap clips are the most nostalgic for me! These clips bring me way back to when I was just a little girl. I was not expecting to be into this trend but turns out I really am! Here are some very fashionable snap clips I would love to wear.

-Alligator Clips- 

Alligator clips are exactly what their name implies! This simple clip allows you to easily decorate or incorporate flair to any outfit! How can you spot an alligator clip? While a snap clip is bent to open, an alligator clip is pinched at the ends and opens just like the mouth of the reptile, hence the name. Alligator clips also occasionally have teeth to ensure a firm hold of your hair.  

-French Barrette- 

Lastly, the French Barrette! The French Barrette has always been in style and is used to dress up any hairstyle for any occasion. These hair clips have the most interesting mechanism of them all because it’s three pieces working together to grip your hair. The body of the clip is where the decoration sits and on the inside are two bendable pieces of metal that are pressed down by another piece of metal facing outward to squeeze the hair down tightly in between. This clip is perfect to add jewels to any hairdo! I particularly love wearing these clips with a half up half down hairstyle!
